Welcome to the EpiNorth home-page!

The EpiNorth project aims to improve communicable disease surveillance, control and communication in the Nordic and Baltic countries and north-west regions of Russia.

On this site you can find information about epidemiological surveillance and outbreaks in various countries (EpiWatch), news about the events within the networks in cooperating countries (EpiNews), the online version of the bilingual epidemiological journal (EpiNorth Journal), data on notifiable infectious diseases from our region (EpiNorthData), national vaccination programmes in cooperating countries (EpiVax), educational and training material from our training courses (EpiTrain), links within our networks (EpiLinks) and contact informarion (About us). For the years 2007 - 2011, EpiNorth is funded by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the Barents Health Programme and participating public health institutes. EpiNorths Secretariat is at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

Situation with viral hepatitis and HIV infection in Novgorod oblast

The Anti-Drug Committee in Novgorod oblast organised a meeting at the end of December 2011. Situation with viral hepatitis and HIV-infection was discussed. Steady increase of viral hepatitis and HIV infection was observed in late 1990s both in Novgorod oblast and in the Russian Federation, mostly among injecting drug users.

World AIDS day

[01.12.11]

Marking World AIDS Day 2011, ECDC and the WHO Regional Office for Europe released their joint publication “HIV/AIDS Surveillance in Europe 2010: Surveillance report”. The new data raises concern about the continuing transmission of HIV in Europe, as newly diagnosed HIV infections are still on the increase.
