Epidemiological situation with trichinellosis in the Republic of Belarus

The reporting of outbreaks of trichinellosis continues in Belarus associated with the ongoing hunting season for wild ungulates, according the Republican centre for hygiene, epidemiology and public health.
In total, between October and the middle of December 2011 there were 4 outbreaks with 39 cases reported in Grodno, Ivje and Slonim districts (Grodno oblast) and in Maladzyechna district (Minsk oblast). In all cases the source of infection was the meat of wild boar which was consumed without the mandatory post-slaughter veterinary and sanitary examination.
