Update on situation with measles in Ukraine, 22 March 2012

According the Ministry of Health of Ukraine there were 5,976 cases of measles reported from the beginning of the year as of 22 March 2012.

Of these 4,308 cases were reported during January and February 2012. The incidence of measles is 9.45 cases per 100.000 population. 106 cases were reported in the last day, most of these cases occurred in western part of Ukraine: 39 cases in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast; 20 in Zakarpattia oblast; 18 in Lviv oblast; 13 in Ternopil oblast; 3 in Volyn oblast and 2 in Rivne oblast. There were no cases reported in Kiev in the last day.

Daily monitoring of measles is run by National Sanitary and Epidemiological Service (SES), as well as prompt information from regions on temporary suspension and restoration of educational activities due to high incidence of measles.

There is a strengthen control of vaccination against measles following National immunisation schedule.

Anti-epidemic measures against measles are in the areas with high incidence of measles are conducted in full accordance with the order of the Ukrainian Ministry of Health.
