As of 22 March 2012, the Statens Serum Institute in Denmark reported an outbreak of cryptosporidiosis with at least 15 veterinary students from the Copenhagen University.

Students became ill in March after the surgical training on removing foetal calf from the artificial cow womb. Cryptosporidiosis is rarely diagnosed in Denmark, the last known outbreak was reported in 2005 were the carrots served in the canteen were the possible source of infection.
