Epidemiological situation of tick borne diseases in Leningrad oblast, Russia

As of 2 May 2012 the Rospetrobnadzor in Leningrad oblast reports 380 people did seek for medical care due to tick bite according the monitoring data, of these 128 were children under 17 years. Most of cases (275, of these 82 children) were reported in week 18.

Tick bites were reported in all districts of the Leningrad oblast.

From the beginning of monitoring 208 ticks, removed from people, were observed in the laboratory, of these 5 had the virus of tick born encephalitis (Gatchinsky, Kirovsky, Luzhsky districts); 39 removed ticks were infected with borrelia (Volchovsky, Gatchinsky, Kirovsky, Lomonosovsky, Luzhsky and Tosnesky districts).

There were 11,061 people vaccinated against tick borne encephalitis, of these 2,832 children.

Acaricid treatment was conducted in the territory of 36.62 ha in Luzhsky, Kirovsky and Prioziorsk districts. People, often walking in the forests, are recommended to get vaccinated against Tick borne encephalitis.
