Two outbreaks of gastroenteritis in Lviv region, Ukraine

Fourty three people (among them 7 children) were hospitalised with diagnosis gastroenteritis, food toxicoinfection after a wedding party on 4yh August 2012. Investigation is ongoing to find out the cause and source of infection.

A second outbreak was reported in Brodovsk municipality, Lviv region 17 cases with gastroenterocolitis caused by Salmonella enteritidis were hospitalised after a birthday party on 3rd August 2012. Among patients there were 9 children and 3 pregnant women, one them on 32nd week of pregnancy was hospitalised in Lviv’s Regional Prenatal Centre. Investigation revealed problems in food proceeding and personal hygiene.
