Information regarding tick-bites in Vologda region between 2 April and 16 August 2012

This is by 4% less than at the same time in previous year. Of those bitten by ticks 2,629 (14%) (653 children), were vaccinated against tick-borne encephalitis (TBE). Emergency prevention (human immunoglobulin against tick-borne encephalitis) was provided to 15,933 people (4403 children); of these 4609 (29%) (4341 children) received immunoglobulin as prophylactic measure; 11,011 patients received treatment with Iodoantipyrine.
In this period 42 people were diagnosed with TBE, of these 2 were children (54 cases in 2011). Ten cases were reported in the city of Vologda, 5 in c. Sokol, 4 in the town of Cherepovec, 3 in Vozhegodsk and 3 in Velikoustiugsk, 2 in Babushkin and 2 in Kichmensko-Gorodetsk.
Since April 2012 there were 89,878 people vaccinated against TBE (of these over 27000 were children), it is by 9,6% more than in 2011. Over 2250 ticks were observed in laboratory: TBE virus was observed in 0,4% of all samples and Borrellia burgdorferi was detected in 34%, human monocytic ehrlichiosis in 3,4% and human granulocytic anaplasmosis in 0,45% of samples.
Acaricid treatment is performed in the region.
