First cases of measles in Lithuania

As of 30 April 2012 Lithuanian Centre for Communicable Diseases and AIDS reports about laboratory confirmed cases of measles in Panevezys municipality.

Daughter and mother got ill on 14 April and 17 April, respectively, both are hospitalised. Patients were not vaccinated against measles. The family of four persons travelled to St. Petersburg on 8 April and received information about relative hospitalised with measles.

Children 15 months and 6-7 years receive vaccine against measles through national immunisation programme. Vaccination with at least 2 doses is recommended for adults who didn’t have measles before or were not vaccinated against the disease.
